What Is Digital Analytics?

Digital analytics at first glance can seem like an over whelming concept. Therefore, it may be something that you disregard as being important. Why should I care about digital analytics? It could be argued that digital analytics can be the defining  factor that differentiates YOU from your competition. Why work harder when you can you work smarter?

Below are several industry leaders and their definition of digital analytics. I believe the 1st definition is the easiest to understand.

Brian Clifton defines it very simply:

“When we refer to digital, we mean “connected to the Internet”. And anything that is digital leaves a foot print. Digital Analytics is about following those digital footprints to understand the people and the experiences that leave them.”

The digital analytics association defines digital analytics as:

“The science of analysis using data to understand historical patterns with an eye to improving performance and predicting the future. The analysis of digital data refers to information collected in interactive channels (online, mobile, social, etc.). Digital Analytics has become an integral part of core business strategies and maintaining a competitive edge. Digital data started the Big Data meme as it heralded the onslaught of Volume, Variety and Velocity, opening the door to new types of correlative discovery much wider. Digital Analytics is a moving target of innovation and exploration. That’s what makes it fascinating.”

Avinash Kaushik co-founder of google define Digital Analytics as:

“Digital analytics is the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from your business and the competition to drive a continual improvement of the online experience that your customers and potential customers have which translates to your desired outcomes (both online and offline).”
